Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.Eleanore was born on Nov. 30, 1926, in rural Hall County to German immigrants Walter and Dora (Marxen) Bruenecke. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to town near Lions Park. She received her education in Grand Island. As a youth, Eleanore was a uniformed usherette at Grand Island’s historic Capitol Theater.On July 22, 1944, she joined the Women’s Army Corps, serving honorably until her discharge on July 13, 1946. She was stationed in Fort Des Moines, Iowa, and Fort Belvoir, Va. After returning to Grand Island, she took flying instruction at Arrasmith Field and earned a private pilot’s license soloing in a Piper Cub J-3. She was an enthusiast of Amelia Earhart’s flying career.Eleanore met the love of her life, LaVern Fuller, at “The Cave” roller skating rink in downtown Grand Island. They were married on New Year’s Day 1948. She took care of the household, which included six children. Later she worked briefly at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant.The Fuller family were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Eleanore served on the Praying Hands Committee at the church and the PTL at the school, helping all her children attend kindergarten through the eighth grade.Eleanore and LaVern lived over 40 years on their acreage west of Grand Island and hosted many family gatherings. They enjoyed traveling, even going to the Soviet Union. She especially enjoyed entertainers Frank Sinatra, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette McDonald. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #53.Those left to cherish her memory include children, Launa (Paul), Steve (Barbara), Kurt (Sonda), Rock (Stacia), Mike (Melissa) and Sam (Deena); grandchildren, Audrey (Rodrigo), Samantha, Sarah (Jeff), Rachel (Phil), Jackie (Justin), Sarah (Chris), Hank ...
